Faith for God

The search for sacredness is especially important in these troubled times, when the world is riddled with racism, poverty, and international mistrust. Mankind is increasingly feeling the need to turn within and invoke their spiritual selves, because that is where peace can be found. Spirituality is important in all aspects of one's life, as well as in the big picture. Faith is an important aspect of personal development. The fact of belonging to a specific religion emphasizes not only a man's personal relationships with God, but also his belonging to the religious community.

The first step in spiritual development is the encounter with God. It is the point at which God comes to us and we meet Him spiritually and wanted for us to discover him. There are various ways for Jesus to enter people's lives, and each person's experience may be unique. This is an essential step in our spiritual development.

I remembered the days when I’m still a civilian who wishes to be part of the long maroon line. My faith was challenged since I wanted at first to become a chemical engineer at the University of the Philippines, but I failed to reach that goal since my UPCAT grade was not enough to qualify me for the course. I passed the exam, but in a different course. My last option is to try my luck in Philippine National Police Academy. It’s my first time, and I have no knowledge of what my life would be since I will become independent. Despite the failures I encountered, I still believe that God has a purpose for everything.

During my stay in the Academy, my faith grew stronger not only because of the rigorous training, pressure, and stress but also because I liked to have a companion who would guide and support me through all the challenges and problems that I would encounter. My classmates also stated that they seek guidance from God only here in the academy, but that gives them a lesson to acknowledge God, not only in hard times but also in the time of their achievements.

Now, as a graduating cadet I manage always my time to attend in worship services of our church despite of our busy schedules and activities because this is the only way I can show my gratitude in all of His blessings. Prayer, as I have learned and continue to see, is important because it is a way of communicating with and connecting with God. Silence and solitude are becoming an important part of my life because they have taught me the value of taking a break from the distractions of academics, tactics, and life in the academy.
